Chateau L’Ermitage is our newest find from the south of France, Costieres de Nimes more specifically. The monastery originally produced wine for the pilgrims of Saint Jaques de Compostela with the first cellar being built in the early 1800’s. Today the father and son team of the Castillon family are at the helm, controlling both vineyard management and wine-making. Respect for their environment is paramount at Chateau L’Ermitage with the estate receiving Terra Vitis certification.

It is rare that we see wines made with 100% mourvedre outside of its famous home, Bandol. Mourvedre (known as monastrell in Spain) typically produces full bodied, inky, and tannic reds. Here, however, the Epicuria shows elegance and finesse. Generous amounts of dark fruit round out the supple tannin structure. A wine that would benefit from a few years in the cellar or teamed up alongside a Silver Sage Tomahawk steak.
