The Spiess family winery is our newest addition to our ever-growing lineup of German wines. The Spiess family began farming in Bechtheim in 1509, until a generation ago. The family originally focused on livestock until Jürgen and his wife, Ute, decided to dapple in grape growing. Not long after, they realized the grapes deserved their full attention. Today their sons, Johannes and Christian, oversee the family’s 32 ha of vines and the winery where they follow minimal intervention winemaking. The many years of farming taught the Spiess’ to have the utmost respect for: family, nature and hard work.

Spatburgunder is German for pinot noir. This thin-skinned grape varietal thrives in cool-climate growing conditions. We love the expression of pinot this wine brings to the table. Super elegant and aromatic, it has delicate notes of black pepper, tart cherry and sage. A wine that is even more fun to drink than to say, try it next to cedar-plank salmon.
